Don Eskridge wanted his own game company. So he came to Chicago to find people to work with, and he contracted me. His favorite colors are orange and green, and he was attracted to the idea of having a company named after a nonsense phrase that had a certain ineffable appeal. So Orange Machine Games was born. Initially I had envisioned the machine as the tree. An orange machine to me would be a machine that made oranges, but Don wanted something more abstract, and liked the idea of gears working, but also hidden away. He gravitated towards the box sketch with a gear. The typeface used for "Orange Machine" is a custom typeface I created for the company called "Mech."
